on the shift I've made when thinking about friendship

There’s this thing that happens in your 30s that I call the “mass exodus.” It’s when all your friends that live in the city start leaving to move to the suburbs. I always knew this would eventually happen, but I just didn’t realize it would happen so soon.

This statement is solely based on observation, but it seems that the pandemic caused this weird split. My married friends seem to be moving at warped speed — they were maybe planning to stay in the city a bit longer but thanks to the pandemic they decided to peace out sooner. My single friends seem to be moving in slow-motion — life came to a halt in 2020 and only just now are they starting to move forward again.

The “mass exodus” has got me thinking a lot about friendship and how it shifts as we get older. I’ve come to realize that there are different types of friendships as we get older.

More on that in a second.

I’ve been a bit slow on the reading front and am still making my way through Good Material as of writing this. Don’t let my slow reading sway you, I’ve been loving it!

I loved this episode of Girls Gotta Eat with Kate Kennedy. The way Kate talks about motherhood and being indecisive is refreshing.

The Urban Remedy — Vegan Caesar Salad. I picked one up at Whole Foods this week and damn, it was good! I added some avocado too because why not.

Season 16 of Rupaul’s Drag Race is in full swing — I’m becoming a big fan of Nymphia Wind and Sapphira. I’m also growing to really love Plasma.

As I try to update my jeans away from skinny jeans, these jeans are becoming a new favorite — although I will say they aren’t cropped on me as I’m 5’2”.

Spending time with my nephew last weekend. I hadn’t seen him since his birthday party in November. I can’t handle how big he is and how much he’s grown.

Now back to the different types of friendships in your 30s.
