Welcome to Logging Off, a weekly roundup of thoughts, links, and silly little things before we log off for the weekend 💻
Hiiii friends,
You know when you hear exactly what you need to hear at the moment you need to hear it? That was me last Friday.
Jeremy was away. I was on the couch catching up on Drag Race and also feeling guilty for not being more productive. But the thing is I have been feeling… unmotivated.
I pride myself in being a hard worker, maybe even to a fault. Disciplined. Motivated. If I want something, I’ll go for it. Even if it burns me out in the process.
Lately, though, i’ve been struggling to find that drive. How do you keep up the same pace when you’re not getting the external feedback that often times fuel you, which in my case was often times praise from bosses.
I stumbled upon a YouTube video about Seth Godin’s book, The Dip. This idea that every skill worth getting good at has a dip in the middle. Where you stop making progress easily. Where growth feels stunted.

And whew, I felt very seen finally having a name for what I’ve been feeling lately. This slog when it feels like UGH, nothing is working as a content creator.
I’m excited to dive more into the book (my copy is on its way from Bookshop.org!) but in the meantime it’s already helped me flip a certain switch in my brain.
Acknowledging that this is the dip somehow is comforting.
I put a post-it note on a computer that says “Keep going.”
I’m reminding myself to continue to show up.
And to control the things I can control — showing up consistently and passionately.
And if you’re in the dip in whatever it is you’re working on too… you’re def not alone 💗 keep going.
And on that note, onward to my weekly smorgasbord of random thoughts and things like :
the hack I learned about getting ready for a wedding on the road
a new thing I’m trying out this week thanks to my therapist
the simple thing that brought me joy
the book I can’t wait to devour this weekend
Let’s dive in, shall we?

The weird hack I accidentally learned…
This weekend Jeremy and I had a friend’s wedding out of town, about an hour away from where we grew up. He was a groomsmen so we drove up from my parent’s house early in the morning the day of the wedding so he could do… whatever exactly it is that guys do to get ready for a wedding.
There was a lot of time to kill… and didn’t want to travel in my wedding ‘fit.
I ended up spending the day at a nearby mall, and honestly? Great place to hang.
It had everything I needed — food, clean bathrooms, and a safe place to walk around or sit and hang out.
When it came time to head back for the actual wedding, I didn’t think it would be the right vibe to get changed at the venue. I ended up getting changed in the bathroom at the Macy’s, and you know what? It worked. And was a lot less stressful than trying to get dressed in my car…
The reminder I had at my friend’s wedding…
Speaking of the wedding…
We are still on the hunt for my own wedding venue (have three tours scheduled for this weekend…)
It’s been stressing me out. A lot. Trying to find the perfect venue that checks all the boxes. That fits our rather large guest list, is within budget, has space to dance, has a bit of a wow factor because hey I like a vibe, and is somewhere we can optimize for people sticking around for an after wedding chill hang.
Being at the wedding? A reminder that no matter what it’s going to be special. Because duh, it’s our wedding. We will be surrounded by our people. Celebrating.
It’s taken some of the pressure off of the venue being such a make or break factor for the wedding.
The thing that brought me a lot of joy…
Spotting the first batch of peaches at the farmers market. Summer is officially here!
The thing I’m trying out this week…
Lately I’ve been feeling like there’s a lot I want to do (Youtube! Substack! Social media! Read! Long walks! Write a book?!)
My therapist suggested I experiment with time blocking, essentially blocking out calendar times for the different tasks on my to-do list.
Previously I’ve had some apprehensions around time blocking, it felt so rigid! But I’m curious to try it out and see how it helps me with productivity and better understanding how long certain tasks take.
I will report back!
The book I can’t wait to read more of this weekend…
I’m currently reading The Summer We Ran by Audrey Ingram and I’m totally sucked in! It’s got dual timelines, something tragic that happened when the main character was a teenager, and high high stakes as the main character is running for political office in the current timeline.
The books I can’t wait to read this summer
30 books that feel like summer
And with that, I hope you have a lovely weekend.
Logging off,
💗 Kayla
I’m really interested to read The Dip now too! I hadn’t heard of it before. Going to order it now…
