Am I thinking about time the wrong way?

The eye-opening realization I had about quitting my job and betting on myself

I woke up extra early this morning, sniffly thanks to the most aggressive spring allergies I have ever experienced in my 34 years on this earth. As I lay awake in bed, my mind turned over a conversation I had with Jeremy last night…

We were sitting on the couch and the conversation pivoted to how I was feeling about how things were going with my transition from working 9-5 to going all in on content creation.

If it seems this topic is all I talk about well… it kind of is all I’ve been thinking about. An all consuming swirl of anxiety, fear, and excitement wrapped into one.

When I quit my job, I told myself:

“Okay, you’re going all in for 6 months.”

I know it doesn’t sound like a lot of time in the grand scheme of building up a business, but you have to remember that I’m not exactly new to this whole content creation thing.

Also, even though I feel incredibly lucky to come from financial privilege, which allows me to even do this in the first place, there’s a limit to how long I can go without making a legit income.

But back to the conversation with Jeremy.

Jeremy isn’t a content creator, or even that much of a social media post-er. But he is a content consumer, particularly in the BookTube realm. It’s always interesting hearing his POV as someone that loves the form but doesn’t deal with the behind-the-scenes of it all.

I’m spiraling a bit, as I tend to do, and he looks at me and says:

“I think you’re thinking about time the wrong way”

And you know what? He was right.
