Hiiii! It’s time for my monthly recap. Here you’ll find everything I read in June, favorites from the month, and a little life update.
A friendly reminder that this newsletter will be going on “Summer Vacation” for July + August. I’ll pop in in a month with the July recap. Otherwise, things will be quiet over here. Until then, we’ll stay in touch on Instagram.
✨ June Check-in ✨
June was chaotic, joy-filled, and a bit exhausting.
I launched the Silly Little Social Club, a community for the book-loving girlies in NYC. And hosted the first two social club events.
Shameless plug for our upcoming July events:
Saturday, July 13 @ 1:30PM — Book Swap & Socialize: Bring a book to swap and make a new friend - SIGN UP HERE
Monday, July 22 @ 5:30PM — Silly Little Social Club x Second Degree Society. SIGN UP HERE
I said yes. A lot. To influencer events. To a beach day with one of my closest friends in her new town. To concerts. To myself. To socializing. To theater. To fun.
It was a good month.
But I’m also tired from doing *all* the things. In July I want to be more mindful of doing less. Of relaxing. Of sitting still.
I’m looking forward to more rest this month (maybe?) and slowing down.
📚 Everything I Read in May 📚
Seven Summer Weekends by Jane L. Rosen — This book was SO good. It’s the perfect romance for summer and takes place on dreamy Fire Island.
A women in her 30s just lost her job thanks to an embarrassing Zoom mix. She’s also just inherited a beach house on Fire Island from her aunt she barely knew. Along with inheriting the house, she also inherits a series of quirky weekend guests.
As the summer goes on she starts to question what the best next step will be for her.
I loved reading about a woman at this kind of crossroads in her life. There’s a romance element, but it’s also a great book about community and figuring out what you want.
The book has some of the same people as ON FIRE ISLAND but can definitely be read as a stand alone novel.
My Rating: 4.5/5 Stars
The Trail of Lost Hearts by Tracey Garvis Graves —
This book followers two people who meet while geocaching and realize they are both grappling with their own grief from unexpected losses. It’s a slow-burn romance full of secrets… which makes me not want to share more about the premise of the book as it’s way more fun to watch it unfold.
Tracey Garvis Graves is one of my favorite authors. She always manages to shock me and take me on such an unexpected journey.
Overall I liked it but found it a bit too slow and repetitive in the middle.
My rating: 4/5 Stars
Side note: I created The Bookshelf, a spot to search through all the books I’ve read over the years. You can filter by genre, rating, and read my reviews. I’ll be [slowly] updating the shelf with books I read over the last few years.
💗 Favorite Things from June 💗
Watching…
The Bear / Season 3: My boyfriend and I absolutely flew through season 3 of The Bear. Overall I’d say it’s still an *amazing* show, but it was def a hard season to watch.
Suffs on Broadway: I LOVED this musical so so much (and am actually listening to the cast recording as I type this up…)
It follows the long long journey to women getting the right to vote. The music is some of the best I’ve heard on Broadway in a long long time. It’s haunting and beautiful and powerful.
Eating…
I’m obsessed with the breakfast burritos at El Donkey, located outside the Los Tacos in Noho. I’ve only had the vegetarian one and LOVE it but have heard great things about all the options.
My bestie and I got brunch at POST in the East Village. The menu has a southern flair with different takes on biscuits but is super vegan friendly.
My boyfriend and I had brunch at Breakfast by Salt’s Cure. It was AMAZING. I got the vegan banana walnut pancake and was in awe of how flavorful it was. We went on a Friday but I imagine they get super crowded on the weekend.
Drinking…
The Kickass London Fog from Coffee Project. Most delicious tea + espresso latte
The Iced Daydream latte from Blank Street is dreamy. It’s got vanilla, cinnamon, and honey syrup
Listening to…
The new Lawrence album Family Business. It’s hard to pick a favorite song… but Something in the Water might be my fave.
Wearing…
I’m am very much in my overall era and rented a few great ones from Nuuly this month:
These classic ones are SO cute!
I loveddd wearing these and almost kept them
These are a new flair on shorteralls a
These shorts are SOOOOO soft!
That’s all for June. Will see you in a month for the July recap 💗
